The important thing to know, is that many times wrong diagnosis can lead to years of suffering.
In the case above, the patient was not treated appropriately because of the wrong diagnosis by his pediatrician and because there was no approved treatment for Asperger’s per FDA. This patient suffered in silence for nearly 11 years with social stigma, and isolation from rest of his school peers. He was led to believe that because of the diagnosis of Asperger’s disease, he will never succeed. Once he was correctly diagnosed and treated, his life has been much more successful for him, but he still needs to make up for the lost years because of the wrong diagnosis.
If you do not agree with the diagnosis given by a physician, go to another doctor, until you are convinced that the diagnosis given is correct.
