In a recent study conducted by Dr. Camille Lassalle, at the University college London, revealed that sticking with a healthy diet particularly a plant rich Mediterranean diet and avoiding sugar rich and processed foods can decrease the risk for depression.
Dr. Lassalle’s group reviewed 41 studies.
Mediterranean diet group included 5 groups of foods. These were fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, and fish.
They noted that, “there is a strong inflammatory cause of depression”. “They find that people “depression have high levels of C-Reactive protein (CRP) and other markers of inflammation”
Nutrition remains an important piece of achieving relief from depression.
Dr. Mahesh Dave routinely recommends ample fruits, vegetables, cold water fish-like Salmon, Meckerel, sardines, and other fish; plant-based proteins, omega 3s, and multivitamin complex; as nutritional components to patient suffering from depression.
